Most shops can connect a scan tool. What separates a module specialist is being able to diagnose power, ground, CAN and LIN, firmware, security and donor compatibility before condemning a module — and having the manufacturer access to finish the job once it is condemned.

Power before programming

Before programming any ECM, PCM, TCM, BCM or security module we check the electrical system and connect a regulated programming supply — a Midtronics PSC-550S at 55 A, or the PSC-700S at 70 A for longer flashes. That is what stops voltage sagging during an OEM software write, which is the failure that leaves a module unrecoverable.

J2534 pass-thru interfaces

SAE J2534 is the standard that lets a Windows laptop run a manufacturer’s own programming software against the vehicle. The interface is the path, not the permission: it does not replace the OEM subscription, the calibration files or the security authentication.

Keys, immobilizer and security

Module replacement often drags the anti-theft system with it. These run under verified ownership only: customer ID, registration or title, and a signed authorization.

When a module no longer answers over OBD-II the data is still on the chip. This is what makes cloning possible on a unit the vehicle has already given up on.

Active OEM programming subscriptions

Owning a manufacturer's interface and holding an active programming subscription for that brand are two different things. These are the subscriptions we carry on an ongoing basis. Work on a brand outside this list is quoted once we confirm the access that specific procedure requires — ask before you book it.

Subject in every case to the original unit still being readable and a part-number-matched donor existing. We confirm both before accepting the job — see the cloning procedure.

What happens before anything is replaced

Before replacing or cloning an ECM or PCM we check DTCs, the power supply, the CAN network and any applicable manufacturer technical service bulletins. Where an OEM TSB calls for a reflash or an updated calibration, we follow that procedure by VIN using the manufacturer’s own software.

We diagnose U0100, U0101, U0121 and U0140 through power supply and ground testing, fuses and relays, CAN High and CAN Low integrity, connectors, module topology, and OEM programming where it is required. A lost communication code means a module stopped answering — which is as often a corroded ground or a chafed CAN wire as it is a failed computer.

Secure vehicle access

Security functions — key programming, immobilizer resets, PIN and code retrieval — run under NASTF Vehicle Security Professional credentialing, backed by a registered business and commercial insurance, with multi-factor authentication on every OEM platform. NASTF does not hand out codes or program vehicles; it verifies the technician and authorizes access to the manufacturer’s own systems.

We are NASTF VSP credentialed. Credentials can be verified on request where a job requires it.

Every security job requires proof of ownership: customer ID, vehicle registration or title, and a signed authorization.

Authenticated Secure Gateway access for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and RAM. The gateway sits between a diagnostic tool and the vehicle network and refuses any write command from an unauthenticated tool, which is what decides whether a shop can program these vehicles at all.

On-site work runs within 40 miles of Brookhaven, Georgia, which covers metro Atlanta including Buckhead, Marietta, Lawrenceville, Decatur and Sandy Springs, across Fulton, DeKalb, Gwinnett and Cobb counties.

Coastal and central Georgia — Savannah, Pooler, Brunswick, Augusta, Macon and Columbus — are served by arrangement, with travel quoted before the visit. Bench work on a module you send in has no radius at all.

How long it takes

Many ECM and PCM clones are completed the same day when we receive the vehicle, the original module still holds readable data and a compatible donor exists. Modules with water damage, an internal short, damaged memory, advanced security or online OEM programming can take one to five business days.

Limited programming and cloning warranty

Auto Module Programming warrants that cloning, programming and configuration services are carried out using appropriate technical procedures and, where applicable, authorized OEM software and access. Cloning depends on the original unit holding readable data and on the donor unit being compatible. Recovery is not guaranteed on modules damaged by water, fire, short circuit, corrosion, prior tampering, or internal faults that prevent the memory being read.

If a module will not accept programming or the data cannot be recovered, the diagnostic fee and the technical time actually spent apply. Before going any further we present the alternatives and their cost.

The warranty does not cover faults in wiring, battery, alternator, fuses, relays, sensors, CAN or LIN networks, other modules, used parts supplied by the customer, non-OEM software, or pre-existing conditions of the vehicle.
